Please bring all your medications and supplements
When you come for a stay at CHEO
Please bring all the medications and supplements you are taking.
Having the best information about your medications is very important for your safety.
During your stay at CHEO, we may also ask to use some of the medications you bring from home.
Examples include:
- filgrastim (G-CSF, Neupogen®)
- enoxaparin (Lovenox®)
- inhalers
- topical creams
- rare medications
- birth control
- medications and supplements not readily available at CHEO
Also, we know you might prefer to use the supplies you have at home (e.g. smaller syringes). We have heard you and want to make that easier, so please feel free to bring in those supplies.
What happens when I bring medications from home?
- Pharmacy will look at all of the medications and supplements you are taking.
- We will have a conversation with you about home-supplied medications that might be used while at CHEO (those not used will be returned).
- We will make sure that medications from home are stored properly and securely.
- We will make sure these medications are only used for you.
- Nurses will administer any prescribed medications brought from home.
- We will record when we use any of your home medications during your stay, including those you might want to administer yourself (if applicable).
- We will return all remaining medication supplies when you leave the hospital.
What if I forget to bring my medications?
- We will ask you for information about the medications you are taking.
- CHEO will supply any medications you need for your care.
Of course, there are other things to consider when coming to CHEO — not just medications and supplements.
