— President and CEO Alex Munter sent this note to supporters of 1door4care after funding for the project was announced on March 15, 2018 —
You did it! Thousands of you!
Pledging your support. Sharing your stories. Posting on social media. Contacting your MPP.
You have all made a difference for some of our most vulnerable children and youth!!
This morning, Premier Kathleen Wynne visited CHEO to announce provincial funding for a new building that will be a hub for kids and teens with special needs and mental health challenges.
1door4care means redirecting money spent on multiple facilities toward frontline service. It means better service and shorter waits. It means creating a hub that brings together providers, families, services and community organizations. It means spaces that are designed to meet the specific needs of these kids and teens. And it means working to make life simpler for families who use many of our programs.
We are so pleased for the families we serve.
It’s not just just the promise of a single building that’s exciting — it’s also the promise of building community. And you have all shown the strength in that.
Thank you to each and every one of you who has helped make 1door4care a reality!
As for next steps, we expect to sit down with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services in coming months and then begin the detailed planning process with care providers, families, architects and planners. We hope to break ground in 2019.
