OTTAWA — Starting today, crews contracted by Infrastructure Ontario — on behalf of the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services — will be doing on-site surface scans and drilling holes to gather information about the location for CHEO’s new integrated treatment centre, 1door4care.
The testing is scheduled to run from November 19 to December 6. It will provide details about the site’s environmental, geotechnical, and hydrogeological conditions, which is required for the continued planning of this exciting, new treatment centre.
Disruptions will be minor and we thank anyone coming to CHEO for their patience if they are inconvenienced by this work during this time.
What is affected?
The testing will affect a variety of small, contained areas in front of the Main Entrance and take place on a variety of different days. It mainly affects staff Parking Lot B.
The work starts with scanning the proposed building site (like a big X-ray) on the evening of November 19. CHEO will need to close a handful of visitor parking spots and the pay-and-display parking spots for a short period of time. Staff Parking Lot B will be closed for the afternoon and overnight.
Between November 26 and December 6, crews will drill eight monitoring wells and 13 boreholes. This will all take place in the area around staff Parking Lot B and will not affect visitor parking. You will see machinery, barricades and construction personnel. Any vibrations from this work should not carry inside nor interrupt daily work and care. While people inside CHEO may hear this work from time to time, we are assured it will not disrupt any of our sensitive equipment.
