January 25, 2022 — OTTAWA — CHEO has taken the next step in building its new 1Door4Care Treatment Centre by selecting B+H Architects as the Planning, Design and Conformance team (PDC), and BTY Group/Colliers Project Leaders as the Project Management Company (PMCo).
“We are excited to signal to our construction community that things are really moving along with this exciting new building, which will have such a positive impact on the children and youth we care for,” said Trevor Stewart, CHEO’s Chief Planning and Building Officer. “We look forward to working with other qualified organizations as we move forward with the next stages of this project.”
B+H Architects will prepare project documents, including specifications, guidelines and performance requirements, all of which the successful building team must meet with their design. B+H Architects will also monitor construction progress, and provide coordination and oversight during commissioning, completion and transition to the new facility.
BTY Group/Colliers Project Leaders will support the management of the project on behalf of CHEO by providing advice on the output specifications, procurement, contract administration and post-occupancy implementation.
The new building will merge seven care locations, currently spread across Ottawa, into a single, state-of-the-art, purpose-built site on CHEO’s Main campus at Smyth Road. The building will include:
- multi-use clinic space,
- a physiotherapy rehab gym,
- expanded mental health clinics,
- indoor and outdoor space where teachers and therapists combine education and therapy,
- state-of-the-art treatment rooms,
- advanced technology to enable virtual care,
- a physical link to the main building on campus,
- family support spaces and more.
Families and local community representatives will be involved in designing the new space and re-imagining the programs within it.
The 1Door4Care health-care hub marks a pivotal moment in the care for kids, youth and families at CHEO. This building will be designed as a life-changing, integrated care centre for kids and teens presenting with complex medical, physical and mental health needs.
CHEO is working closely with Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the project under the public-private partnership model. As the next major step, CHEO and Infrastructure Ontario will issue a request for qualifications (RFQ), inviting teams to submit their credentials to design, build and finance the new facility.
