Ottawa, Canada — CHEO, like other pediatric hospitals, continues to be very busy with the onset of an early viral season. (See our October 7 release.)
Our Emergency Department just had its busiest September ever. Kids are coming into Emergency sicker and we are seeing a higher proportion with respiratory viral illnesses. Our inpatient medicine units (where most of the admissions from Emergency go) are consistently running at or above 120% capacity.
There is a mix of viruses in the community contributing to our busy hospital, among them RSV, influenza and COVID. There is a good deal of recent interest about RSV and how it’s affecting CHEO.
Find out what you need to know about RSV, the early viral season and why it matters to CHEO and what you can do.
