Meet Isabelle Moss, Specialty Technologist in MRI
Isabelle was diagnosed with a Common Variable Immunodeficiency in 2011. From that moment on, she became part of the CHEO family. Her young adult life was shaped by regular visits to CHEO’s Medical Day Unit and by a life-changing bone marrow transplant at Montreal’s Sainte-Justine hospital in 2014.
“I started falling in love with the medical environment,” says Isabelle. “I knew I wanted to be the face that patients look at. I wanted to give them hope and put a smile on their faces.”
Isabelle’s passion for helping others led her to Sudbury. She completed her training as an X-Ray medical radiation technologist, specializing in MRI, and came back to CHEO for her student placement. “It was a perfect fit,” shares Isabelle. “It was nice to be back in the same hallways but to be on the other side and be that hope for other children.”
For the last two years, Isabelle has been working as an MRI technologist – her dream job. And while she is now an adult patient at the Ottawa General Hospital, Isabelle spends her days providing special care to her young patients at CHEO. “Because I’ve been on the other side, I know the impact of a care provider on your overall patient experience,” says Isabelle.
From being a young Francophone patient from a small town outside of Ottawa to now working alongside the coworker that used to scan her as a child, Isabelle has found her calling.
As she walks through the halls of CHEO, Isabelle regularly runs into people that cared for her – the people that made an impact on her journey. The empathy and kindness she felt as a patient and then as a student, only continued when she became full-time staff. CHEO, and its people, have become like a family to Isabelle.
“Everyone is just there for you. You can see that. It’s in our core – it's not just a job. We love to help,” shares Isabelle.
CHEO is filled with caring and inspiring people like Isabelle. Join us.
