For some of our staff, medical staff and learners, their health journey began at CHEO. Years later, they found their way back to help make a difference in the lives of children.
Meet Christian Beaupre, Service Coordinator, Telecommunications
Christian started his professional journey at CHEO in May 2012. But Christian has a more personal connection to the organization. At 12 years old, Christian began experiencing respiratory issues. His parents immediately sought care at CHEO, where he went through a series of assessments, including a scope of his throat, to identify the cause: a cyst that was quickly removed.
Christian was not a fan of needles and, quite frankly, was afraid of being put under anaesthesia but he remembers fondly the staff who helped put his fears to rest. He also recalls his best friend who was cared at CHEO for a kidney issue, visiting him for several months at the hospital. The kindness he experienced throughout is one of the main reasons Christian chose to work at CHEO. He too wanted to make a difference and help children and youth.
As we reflect on half a century of caring, growing, and healing, we asked Christian to reflect on his more than a decade at the hospital. In 2013, Christian was working reception and an ice storm hit Ottawa, disrupting the computer systems and main phone lines. The hospital had to respond quickly and effectively to continue supporting patients and their families. In doing so, Christian helped rewrite CHEO’s downtime procedures working with colleagues across the hospital. His work during the ice storm is something he is still proud of today. That’s what makes CHEO special – committed and caring staff.
CHEO is filled with hundreds of dedicated people like Christian. Join us.
Join us in commemorating five decades of dedicated care, compassion and commitment to the health and well-being of children. CHEO's journey began in 1974, and we are proud to have been part of the community's health story for half a century.
