Meet Michael Munroe (Mike), Registered nurse and Care facilitator in the CHEO Emergency Department
Mike started his journey at CHEO in 2005 as a Patient Service Attendant – doing transfers, holds and interacting with patients while also cleaning their rooms and the unit. But Mike wasn’t the only one of his family at CHEO. At the time, his brother was also a Patient Service Attendant, his sister-in-law was working as a nurse (and is still at CHEO today!), and his mother was working as a physiotherapist. It’s fair to say that for the Munroe Family, CHEO was a family affair!
A few years later, Mike decided to step away and go to trades school. But it was not long before he realized that his heart belonged to the children and youth at CHEO. While studying nursing, he returned to CHEO, working in Environmental Services as he earned his degree. Today, Mike is a proud Registered Nurse and Care Facilitator in the CHEO Emergency Department, doing what inspires him the most: helping kids and youth. “Working in the Emergency department, I see a lot of sick kids. That sticks with you,” says Mike. “But I also see many of those same sick kids respond well to our care and go home happy and healthy. To me, that’s what makes working at CHEO worth it.”
CHEO was founded on the principles of compassion, excellence and a commitment to providing the highest standard of care. And it is with people like Mike who make our future so bright.
CHEO is filled with hundreds of dedicated people like Mike. Join us.
Join us in commemorating five decades of dedicated care, compassion and commitment to the health and well-being of children. CHEO's journey began in 1974, and we are proud to have been part of the community's health story for half a century.
