The CHEO Community stands in solidarity with all those affected by Sunday's violent and deadly display of Islamophobia that killed a family of four and orphaned a young boy in London, Ontario.
We stand with the Muslim community in mourning and condemning this terrorist attack. Although this attack happened hundreds of kilometres away in London, Ontario, we know that this news will be very close to the hearts of many of us here in Ottawa. There is work to do across Canada to address racism and discrimination, to foster togetherness and inclusiveness and ensure that all children, youth and families feel safe and respected.
Repeated exposure to racism and hate, either directly or by witnessing it on the news and social media, can lead to negative physical and mental health outcomes. If you or someone you know is struggling to cope, please reach out for help and support:
- Muslim Family Services of Ottawa
- Naseeha Mental Health Hotline
- Distress Centre Ottawa: 613-238-3311
A reminder to CHEO staff and medical staff — you also have access to support through our Employee Assistance Program and PEEPS (Peer to peer support). Please visit CHEOnet to learn more and access these supports.
