CHEO, the leading provider of specialized pediatric health services in the region, is currently recruiting a volunteer to join its Board of Directors. CHEO’s Board of Directors is responsible for the overall governance of the organization - its members set the organization’s strategic priorities and ensure they’re met; they provide ongoing oversight of the quality of care provided; and ensure financial resources are managed appropriately.
Vacancy - Board of Directors
CHEO is seeking to fill one vacancy on its Board of Directors. CHEO’s Board consists of 18 Directors – 12 members recruited from the broader community; 1 representative from the University of Ottawa; the Chair of the Board of the School Authority; and 4 ex-officio members. Approximately 20% of CHEO’s Board Directors are Francophones (speak French as their mother tongue).
Competencies provide the foundation for CHEO’s Board composition. CHEO’s Board of Directors is also firmly committed to diversity, striving to ensure it is representative of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds. Ideal candidates will have a passion for CHEO’s mission to serve the children, youth and families of our community. Candidates will also have a good knowledge of the health care environment and public policy, as well as familiarity with child and youth issues, and/or have already played active leadership roles in their community. Previous governance experience is preferred.
For this recruitment, we are seeking applicants with expertise in any of the following areas:
- Information technology
- Health research
- Financial management – CPA or equivalent designation
- Business management / Entrepreneurial expertise
Applicants without experience in one of these areas will not be considered for this particular recruitment, however, we will keep applications on file for future opportunities.
Candidates must be available to attend 6 Board meetings per year, in addition to serving on at least one Board committee which also meets 6-7 times per year. Members must also be able to dedicate several hours a month to read required documentation and attend other functions, as needed. They should be willing to represent CHEO in the community and with decision makers, in order to help achieve the organization’s long-term goals. Mandates are for three years, renewable twice.
