CHEO’s Interpretation Services is currently seeking certified contracted interpreters who are experienced with the health-care sector/medical terminology and speak one of the following languages:
- Arabic, Kirundi, Pashtu, Portuguese, Somali, Tigrinya, Turkish
At CHEO, we serve a vast population of children, youth and families who do not speak or read in English or French. To support these children, youth and their families, CHEO is proud to provide interpretation services in over 20 languages.
We’re looking for contracted interpreters who fit the following criteria:
- Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical setting
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
- Interested in working on an on-call basis
- Previous experience working with sick and palliative children, as well as stressed and grieving parents and caregivers
- Display cultural sensitivity and transparency
Requirements:
- CILISAT or equivalent certification and at least 1 year experience.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Successful candidates will be required to obtain a vulnerable sector check, TB testing and provide immunization records.

- Language interpretation is available for all children, youth and families who do not speak conversational English or French.
- Interpretation services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Interpreters provide services at CHEO and at CHEO satellite locations.
- CHEO’s interpreters are currently providing in-person and virtual service during COVID-19.
