For the seventh time, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario – Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre (CHEO – OCTC) has been recognized as one of the 2018 National Capital Region’s Top Employers. The honour puts CHEO among the region’s most respected and influential organizations, from a number of different industries.
The National Capital Region’s Top Employers list is an annual competition that evaluates exceptional places to work in the Ottawa area.
“CHEO commits to providing the community with exceptional patient care, but also takes pride in knowing that our staff members have the opportunities and benefits that make them proud to be a part of the CHEO family,” says Alex Munter, CHEO’s President and CEO.
The competition considers a number of factors, including work atmosphere, skill development, community involvement and physical workplace.
CHEO has continuously met many of the Top Employers selection criteria, offering an environment that supports staff and their families, as well as patients and their families.
Beyond that, the organization provides a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, leadership training, on-the-job learning and orientations that allow employees to grow professionally and personally.
Top Employers also notes CHEO’s onsite facilities as valuable resources for employees. Employees have access to a number of amenities including a cafeteria, a quiet room for meditation and religious observance, and a subsidized fitness facility.
“Our team is made of nearly 3,000 people and it’s thanks to every single one of them that we have such a supportive workplace,” says Munter. “There is an incredibly strong sense of purpose among staff and that’s what drives us to care so deeply about the environment we’ve created at CHEO.”
In November, CHEO was named one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in the public sector, an award given out by Waterstone Human Capital. For the last two years, CHEO has also been ranked number one among health care and social sector employers on Forbes’ list of Canada’s Best Employers, moving into the top 10 overall last year.
