CHEO is excited to announce the reappointment of Dr. Lindy Samson to a second five year term as our Chief of Staff. Dr. Samson’s reappointment was approved by the CHEO Board of Directors on April 10.
“Throughout her first term, Dr. Samson’s background as an infectious diseases specialist, along with her calm, strong and empathetic leadership have been invaluable to team CHEO and to the children, youth and families we serve,” says Daphne Fedoruk, Chair of CHEO’s Board of Directors. “The importance of these strengths has been especially highlighted throughout the pandemic. They have been called on again and again, and she has met each challenge with her compassion, intelligence and grace.”
Dr. Samson is a steadfast advocate for including children, youth and families as partners in care, and brings this perspective to everything she does.
As part of the Chief of Staff role, Dr. Samson is also CHEO’s Chief Medical Officer, representing and supporting the medical staff in their work as members of team CHEO. She is respected among her peers, who named her to chair of the Champlain Region Chiefs of Staff Committee. She is also co-chair of the Champlain Hospital COVID-19 Response Committee.
Among her many accomplishments Dr. Samson has been a driving force in key improvements and projects across CHEO, including but not limited to:
- Creating a child, youth and family partnership framework, co-designed and co-led by youth and family partners
- Leading a #SafetyFirst culture across CHEO
- Strengthening partnerships with community providers
- Better serving the needs of children and youth with physical and developmental disabilities through the amalgamation of CHEO and the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre into one unified organization
- Building the foundations for an integrated child and youth health system, including co-chairing the 2017 THRIVE report and work on the Kids Come First Health Team
- Supporting the successful launch of Epic, our electronic health records system, across all of CHEO
“I feel greatly honoured to have been reappointed for a second term as CHEO’s Chief of Staff” says Dr. Lindy Samson. “I’m proud of the many accomplishments we have achieved as a team over the past five years, and am looking forward to continuing to work alongside children, youth, families and the incredible CHEO staff, medical staff and community to optimize, integrate and improve pediatric health care in the region.”
