OTTAWA — CHEO is one of 32 pediatric hospitals to be recognized by Newsweek’s 2019 World’s Best Hospitals list and is among seven selected from Canada.
To develop the list, Newsweek conducted research with GeoBlue and Statista, inviting tens of thousands of doctors, hospital managers and other health-care professionals to complete an online survey. They also conducted patient surveys to assess satisfaction with care, and looked at performance indicators such as hygiene and patient safety.
CHEO is listed alphabetically with other specialty hospitals, which highlights the world’s best pediatric, cancer, trauma and cardiology centres, among other specialty health-care centres that, due to their unique service offerings, cannot be compared by rank.
The World’s Best Hospitals list is awarded to the best hospitals in 11 countries —selected based on standard of living, life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability. These countries include the USA, Canada, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Israel.
“Our vision is to provide the best life for every child and youth,” said CHEO President and CEO, Alex Munter. “Seeing CHEO among the world’s best is a testament to our caring staff, dedicated volunteers and generous community that comes together to serve children and youth in eastern and northern Ontario, western Quebec and Nunavut. We are partners in health with parents and guardians, so this acknowledgement really honours families too.”
