OTTAWA, Ontario — CHEO is one of 24 pediatric hospitals to be recognized by Newsweek’s 2021 World’s Best Hospitals list and is among five selected from Canada.
To develop the list, Newsweek and Statista conducted research, inviting tens of thousands of doctors, hospital managers and other health-care professionals to complete an online survey. They also conducted patient surveys to assess satisfaction with care, and looked at performance indicators such as hygiene, patient safety and quality of treatment.
CHEO is listed alphabetically with other specialty hospitals, which highlights the world’s best pediatric, cancer, trauma and cardiology centres, among other specialty health-care centres that, due to their unique service offerings, cannot be compared by rank. See the full list of hospitals that made the list and learn more about the methodology used to develop it.
The World’s Best Hospitals 2021 recognizes the best medical institutions across 25 countries. These countries include USA, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Israel, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Thailand, Italy, Brazil, India, Spain, Mexico, Poland, Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
“This is a wonderful tribute to our staff and medical staff at CHEO who are all about putting families first,” said CHEO President and CEO, Alex Munter. “The worldwide pandemic has made for a difficult year at CHEO, and like all health care workers, the CHEO team is tired and feeling the effects. But regardless, they are giving it their best and have continued to deliver exceptional care in ways that matter to families — simple, integrated, and safe. Being recognized for being among the best in the world at serving children and youth is an honour and a great pat on the back for our team. It reminds us that the focus of our work, not to mention feelings in our hearts, is precisely where they ought to be.
CHEO is always looking for great people – in fact, come work for the best! CHEO is currently recruiting nurses, psychologists and researchers.
CHEO recently celebrated its sixth time on Forbes list of Canada’s Best Employers and a 10th consecutive year as one of the National Capital Region Top Employers, an annual competition organized by MediaCorp Canada Inc. CHEO has also been named one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures and recognized by Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month, among many other accolades for our medical and research professionals. The 2020 Faces Magazine recognized Alex Munter as a favourite CEO of the year.
