Malakai, is a bubbly six-year-old who came into the world as a premature baby. After his parents noticed reoccurring symptoms, Malakai was back at CHEO where he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 17 months old. He is one of the many children who benefit from the multiple services offered through Development and Rehabilitation at CHEO. Georgina arrived earlier than expected. She was born via emergency caesarean section at just 23.5 weeks old. Baby Georgina faced many challenges because of extreme prematurity and was admitted to CHEO’s NICU. Premature babies remind us just how precious and fragile life is. Meet Emeric, a 15-year-old who refuses to let anything stop him.
Emeric has an incredible love for outdoor activities and sports. He was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer after coming into CHEO with severe leg pain. An MRI revealed a large tumour in his pelvis. He immediately started an intense chemotherapy regime followed by radiation.
