It has been a challenging start to holiday season at CHEO. The virulent spread and early arrival of influenza (flu), RSV and COVID-19 viruses this year have brought thousands of families through our doors. Starting in October, we’ve had a record number of admissions to hospital, mostly very young children who need help breathing. Providing this care has meant we have had to delay care for others. And that is difficult for everyone.

Respiratory illnesses have been more severe and, as a result, we are seeing more children and youth coming through our doors at CHEO. CHEO is among four Ontario hospitals with specialized childhood cancer programs to receive a first-in-Canada prestigious international certification recognizing excellent supportive care for children and youth with cancer.

CHEO welcomes investments in critical care capacity

Ottawa – November 28, 2022 – CHEO is welcoming a much-needed investment to right-size its pediatric intensive and critical care services.
As of this week, the Ontario government has approved new, permanent funding that will:
