We understand that attending school can be a challenge for children of all ages on the autism spectrum. CHEO’s School Support Services offer a range of services to help remove barriers to success in school. Our goal is to help children and youth with ASD overcome school-related obstacles and feel confident going to school.
Note: This service is separate and distinct from the Ontario Autism Program’s Entry to School Program.
School Support Consultations
School Support Consultations are brief, targeted consultations structured with ABA techniques and aim to address a variety of challenges that children and youth with autism may face with succeeding at school.
Some of our consult goals include:
- Coping with bullying
- Cooperation with academic tasks and adult instructions
- Emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Independent eating
- Social communication
- And much more!
Our consultations also offer preparation and support for transitioning to new school environments and preparing for college or university. All of these goals are tailored to each child or youth's individual needs to provide the best possible support and results.
Our CHEO team of School Consultants will discuss strategies to create a positive first time school experience.
Delivered in collaboration with CHEO’s YouthNet, this workshop is delivered in middle schools and high schools. It aims to promote understanding and acceptance in the classroom while raising awareness of neurodiversity. These presentations are designed for students in grades 6+.
