CHEO is a leader in pediatric health care, in Canada and around the world. Many CHEO physicians, residents and allied health care professions are dedicated to the field of global child health (GCH). Globalization, international travel and migration means that the way we deliver care has changed. We are treating new types of illnesses in new, modern ways. Since the majority of the world's children live in developing countries, we believe that all clinicians and trainees need to get education and be aware of global child health issues.
Our clinicians incorporate global child health education, research and clinical discoveries into their daily work at CHEO. Not only do we incorporate this knowledge into our practice, we strive to provide children and youth with the most advanced and innovative treatments available.
Advocacy
At CHEO, we advocate for improved health care delivery and outcomes in maternal-child health, both at a national and international level. We're involved in a number of partnerships and advocacy initiatives that further global childhood health:
- Canadian partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH)
- Canadian Pediatric Society (CPS)
- Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS)
- neonatology alliances
- migrant health guideline development
- pediatric HIV taskforces
We strive to help create a world where every child, across the world, can live their best life. We always encourage our clinicians, scientists and researchers to seek out opportunities to collaborate and build global partnerships.
