Preparing for your appointment |
Please sign-up for a MyChart account, prior to your first visit. Please have the following with you, if applicable:
Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to ensure you are checked-in prior to your appointment time. |
What to expect during your appointment |
CHEO is a teaching hospital, and your child might be seen by a medical student or resident in addition to a pediatric dermatologist. If you have concerns about this, let us know at check-in. You might also be approached by a research assistant during your visit to invite you to participate in a research study. Our research helps improve patient health outcomes. |
After your appointment |
Your Dermatologist will let you know whether any additional appointments or tests are required after your visit. |
Frequently asked questions
What services does the Dermatology Clinic provide? |
CHEO's Dermatology clinic sees patients with:
We work with other clinics at CHEO, as many dermatologic problems are related to therapies and prescribed medications, such as chemotherapy. We also regularly perform biopsies in our clinic, and these are done by the dermatologist. |
How can I make an appointment? |
All patients must be referred. Wait times vary based on urgency and demand. Once we have an appointment spot to offer, our Scheduling Team will reach you by phone to schedule an appointment. If something changes and you need to reschedule your appointment, please let us know at least 48-72 hours in advance by calling 613-737-7600 x 2222. No-shows or frequent cancellations may result in discharge from the service. |
What do I do if I need a prescription renewal? |
Please plan and request medication refills five or more business days before your medication runs out. Your pharmacy can fax us a medical refill request to 613-738-4298. |
How do I prepare for my virtual appointment? |
CHEO's Dermatology clinic is offering telephone appointments in some cases. Sometimes when we call families, it shows up as a private number. If you receive a call from a private number, especially at a time when you have a scheduled CHEO appointment, consider answering as it may be your care team calling. To prepare for your virtual appointment, you must upload a recent photo of your child’s condition to MyChart. This is important information for your Pediatric Dermatologist to review. To upload a photo, use the two-way messaging feature in MyChart. Instructions on how to do this can be found below. |
Who should I contact if I am worried or have questions? |
For any emergency, call 911. This includes emergencies involving your child’s Dermatology related concerns. Please do not send a photo unless your child has a virtual encounter scheduled. For patients who are being followed by the Dermatology Clinic: For patients who have seen a CHEO Dermatologist, call your Nurse Case Manager or send a direct message to them through MyChart. This is not for urgent calls. Our nurses are here to give support, education and will work to coordinate your child’s care. It may take 3-5 days for us to get back to you (and sometimes longer during holidays). We will return the most serious calls first. Please avoid leaving multiple messages for the same issue. For patients who are waiting for their first visit with the Dermatology Clinic: Please do not call the nurses line if you have not yet been seen by a CHEO Dermatologist. Please call your family doctor, pediatrician or visit your nearest walk-in clinic. |
Sending two-way messages in MyChart
Once you have registered for MyChart, you will be able to send your two-way message to the nurse in the Dermatology clinic. In that message please attach up to three recent photos of your child's condition. Please send the photos at least 48 hours before your upcoming appointment.
Here are some tips for using two-way communication with our Dermatology team:
• Please only send one message and include no more than three photos.
• We won't be able to answer messages in MyChart for upcoming telephone appointments. If you have any questions, your child's care team can discuss them with you during your appointment. Pease make a list of any questions you have, and have the list with you during the appointment so you're ready to discuss.
• After the appointment, you can use MyChart to communicate with the nurse case manager if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's condition.
